Press Release 24th August 2001
Programmable
ambience-enhancing cabin lighting is now being introduced by Cathay Pacific Airways onto
its A330, A340 and B747 aircraft as part of their new long haul Business Class
product. This latest advance in
lighting technology, designed and manufactured by Page Aerospace Limited,
incorporates a combination of LED feature lighting, coordinated with fully
dimmable cabin fluorescent lighting.
“We are delighted to be associated with Cathay’s creative approach to
its new business class product.” said Paul Gibbs, Managing Director.
The changing colour spectrum of the LED modular feature
lighting, and the smooth transition between the steady lighting states of the
cabin fluorescent lighting, were selected by Cathay Pacific during the
development cycle. The two products
compliment each other to provide a relaxing and pleasing cabin environment.
Page’s fluorescent light
fixtures are directly interchangeable with the aircraft’s standard fittings,
and provide the benefit of softly changing between lighting states, imitating
natural daylight. The Operator can
pre-select the light intensity of, and transition time to, each steady state to
coincide with the cabin activities, offering a more comfortable experience on
long haul flights. The fluorescent
lighting can vary between 2 ~ 100% of full brightness with the safety of arc
protection as a standard feature.
Working with Cathay
Pacific’s engineering team, Page Aerospace developed these products to directly
interface with the existing aircraft Cabin Management System thereby
eliminating any aircraft modification.
The unique aspect is that the Operator specified lighting profiles, for
the feature and fluorescent lights, are stored within each unit. This removes any requirement for a dedicated
lighting controller ensuring simple retrofit and the most cost effective
solution for the operator. Complete
lighting control is maintained via the Flight Attendant Panel and operated in
the normal manner guaranteeing quick and easy use.
Cathay Pacific’s new
Business Class will be progressively introduced on 41 of its long-haul aircraft
in coming months.
